NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Flashforge recently introduced the CJ270, a desktop full-color 3D printer that supports applications such as tabletop miniatures, original character collectibles, and personalized figures. By incorporating color directly during printing, the CJ270 reduces reliance on manual painting, offering hobbyists, digital artists, and small studios an alternative way to bring their digital designs into the physical world.
A Shift in How Miniatures Get Their Color
In conventional single-color resin printing, a miniature’s shape and color are typically created in separate stages: the model is printed, then painted to achieve its intended appearance. Supported by an established ecosystem of paints, tools and techniques, hand-painting is also a creative pursuit in its own right for many hobbyists.
Full-color 3D printing moves color into the design and printing stages. With the CJ270, color information prepared in the digital model is reproduced during printing. Once the water-soluble supports are removed, the model already carries its printed colors, with further surface finishing applied if desired. This offers an alternative workflow for creators seeking a colored miniature without a separate hand-painting stage.

How the Flashforge CJ270 Fits the Workflow
The CJ270 brings full-color material jetting into a desktop-oriented system. It combines CMYK with white and transparent materials to support more than 10 million possible color combinations. With a rated minimum layer thickness of 7 microns and a build volume of 180 × 120 × 100 mm, it offers miniature creators a way to turn textured digital designs into colored physical models.
The workflow begins with a digital model containing both geometry and color information, such as a textured OBJ or GLB file. Once the model is prepared, users can import it into Flashforge ColorPrint to configure the printing job. The CJ270 then builds the object using UV-curable material jetting, with a built-in planarizer leveling each layer before UV curing.
After printing, the water-soluble supports can be removed by soaking the model in water according to the operating instructions. Ultrasonic cleaning may be used as an optional aid, and further surface finishing can be applied if desired. Because color is incorporated during printing, no additional hand-painting is needed to obtain a colored model.

From Individual Creations to Customized Collections
For miniature creators, the appeal of full-color printing is straightforward: more of a model’s appearance can be defined before it reaches the printer. A tabletop gamer could give a character a distinctive outfit or a set of faction colors, while a digital sculptor could turn an original character into a display piece with its textures and color scheme already in place.
For small studios, a single model could be offered in several color schemes, or adapted with customer-selected patterns and details. Each version still requires preparation, but those differences can be built into the digital design rather than recreated entirely with a paintbrush. The feasibility of small-batch production will depend on material costs, preparation time, and post-processing requirements.
Priced at $3,999 in the United States, the CJ270 provides a desktop option for exploring these applications. As full-color printing becomes more accessible, its wider adoption in miniature production will depend on how easily creators can move from digital design to finished physical models.
